Cultivate Community

CULTIVATE COMMUNITIES WHERE WE ENCOURAGE ONE ANOTHER TO BECOME MORE LIKE CHRIST.

“Spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another.” —Hebrews 10:24-25

The “West” was built by the sweat of bootstrappers, who came out here to prove themselves. They didn’t need others, but they could learn to live completely self-sufficient. This is true in most of America, but amplified in Colorado. To “need” other people feels like weakness.

How might we affirm this?

Being free from others imposing unnecessary restrictions can be very good. There are lots of oppressive places to live around the world. And the desire to be in a healthy place in life isn’t a bad desire.

How might we need to challenge that?

But authority isn’t bad, only bad authority is bad. God actually designed us to need one another and to need community, he designed us to be dependent on one another. He calls it a body, his body, the church. Each of us has our own part to fill and the others depend on us exercising that part, and we all fall under the authority of Jesus, the head.

When you believe you were so weak, Jesus had to come to this earth to die for you, you no longer are under the delusion that you are strong on your own. But you need Jesus, and you need the community Jesus created to encourage you and challenge you to grow.
