  • Waypoint Church is a new church plant (launched August 2021) situated at the foot of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado Springs, CO. We are a PCA and Acts 29 church. Our vision is to bring Gospel transformation to the suburbs. So our work is to bring rest to the overachiever, bring renewal to the overly-busy & burnt out, bring community to the lonely, and renewed purpose to the wanderer. We bring that rest and renewal so that we can send out the church into the world to be on God’s mission to bring restoration to all things. Colorado Springs is a fast growing city in the Western US and while we have over 85 Christian Nonprofits headquartered here, the city is only 16% evangelical protestant.

  • The primary purpose of this internship is to allow someone to grow and develop ministry skills while pursuing higher education. You get to be in the lives of others, helping them grow in their faith, see the nuts and bolts of ministry and gain experience at a church plant. As a young church plant we are looking for someone to help with discipleship, theological education (to include children), assisting with some admin and organizing church events, along with a bit of volunteer coordination. This would prepare you well to be a church planter or an assistant pastor or a “generalist” ministry leader at a smaller church or church plant.

    • Teaching in a small group setting (including opportunities to preach for Pastoral Residents)

    • Assisting with Visitor Assimilation and organizing fellowship events

    • Aiding the Development of our Kids ministry

    • Using theological education to help write an age appropriate kids ministry curriculum

    • Leading volunteer efforts for some outreach and mercy ministry activities

    • Coordinating the support team leaders quarterly volunteer scheduling process

    • Lead aspects of Sunday Liturgy and assist with other Sunday morning support activities

  • The goal of this residency is to provide growth opportunities for those desiring a career in ministry. To keep one foot in the church, growing in the practical application of your theological education. So when you leave the residency you have the skills needed for ministry in the church and experience for a job application. Mentorship includes weekly guided discipleship with the pastor, growth in understanding strengths and weaknesses, workshopping teaching effectiveness, experimenting in evangelism, growing as a leader, learning entrepreneurial skills and learning how to experience rest and retreat in ministry.

  • Each Residency situation will look different for each person and their family. But a typical residency looks like: the host church paying for seminary education, including a stipend for books. Also, being paid an hourly rate based on duties and responsibilities at the church (estimated 15-20 hours per week). That pay would be supplemented with either part-time employment outside the church or fundraising by the ministry resident to provide a suitable living wage for the resident and their family. Benefits typically include funding for relocation, and a budget for their ministry activities.
